About Rebecca Ferguson
Rebecca Louisa Ferguson Sundström was born on October 19th, 1983 in Stockholm, Sweden. Taking Rebecca Ferguson as her stage name, she was cast as the lead in the Swedish soap opera, Nya Tider (New Times) at the age of 15. She later appeared in the Swedish-American soap Ocean Ave. Spotted by Swedish director, Richard Hobert, in the Simrishamn town market in 2011, she was offered the lead role in A One-way Trip to Antibes.
Once Ferguson acquired an agent in England, she was cast to play Elizabeth Woodville in the BBC historical television drama The White Queen. This led to a Golden Globe nomination in 2014. Her performance in The White Queen, plus a well-timed audition tape, led Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie to choose her for the role of Ilsa Faust in 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
After Mission, Ferguson starred in a number of hits and misses including Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep, The Girl on the Train with Emily Blunt, The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman and more. In 2018, Ferguson returned to the role of Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
A year later, Rebecca took the role of Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep, a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Though the film was less than successful, Ferguson was praised with her performance of the main villain with some calling Rose the Hat, the best cinematic villain in years. That same year, Ferguson took on two other villainous roles in The Kid Who Would be King and Men in Black: International.
In 2020, Denis Villeneuve cast Rebecca as Lady Jessica in his epic adaption of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Alongside actors such as Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling and more, Ferguson excelled as the complex Bene Gesserit. She will reprise the role in 2023’s Dune: Part Two. Rebecca will also return to the role that made her career, Ilsa Faust, in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One in 2023 and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two in 2024.
Recently Rebecca has returned to television as the lead and executive producer of the Apple+ TV series, Wool.
Rebecca is married with two children and currently lives in southwest London.
